How Much to Tip a Tattoo Artist?

Tattoo artists are skilled professionals who spend years mastering their craft. A 20% tip is the widely accepted standard in the tattoo community, and many clients tip 25% for complex or exceptional work.

Unlike restaurants where 15% is the minimum, the tattoo community's baseline is higher - typically 15–20% minimum, with 20–25% being seen as respectful and generous. For a $300 tattoo, that means a $60–75 tip.

Cash or Card?

Many tattoo artists prefer cash tips to avoid card processing fees. Ask your artist when you book - some studios have ATMs on site or can remind you to bring cash.
